Next to correct for distortions due to size of playlists. The first is the ratio of songs appearing on the alternative chart to the songs appearing exclusively on the AAA charts. 40 percent and above is an alt leaner, 20 to 39 a neutral and below 20 is a soft alternative station. Let's see how they did on this one.

What Kind of AAA Station Do You Have? Pt III
The raw numbers tended to give high alt scores for stations that had large playlists so the next category I did was percentage of number of songs on the alternative charts as against the current songs on the station's playlist. 30 percent and over indicates an alt leaner 10-29 a neutral and less than 10 indicates a station that is not alt-friendly.

What Kind of AAA Station Do You Have Part II
Yesterday we did a little test to explore which AAA stations lean alternative and which don't -- we counted up the number of songs on each station's playlist that appear on any of the Alternative charts appearing in Billboard/Radio-Info.com. Today will be the mirror image of yesterday -- another raw number count this time focusing on songs on the current playlists (measured last December) that appear on the AAA charts but not on any of the alternative charts. Yesterday's chart tended to give higher "alternative" stations with large playlists. This one tends to penalize -- if that's the right word -- them. Today under 10 will indicate an alternative leaner 10-19 will indicate a neutral and 20 and over will indicate a "soft" alternative station.

What KInd of AAA Station Do You Have?
One thing that has struck me about the Album Adult Alternative format is that there is a wide variance. Some are fairly close to the pre-2000 alternative format, before the female portion of the audience was ruthlessly weeded out and the remainder was force fed Korn. Others are on a mission to air every singer-songwriter in every coffeehouse in America. Still others are trying to sell hot AC with the Katie Perry and Pink lfet out.
So I took a semi-scientific stab at defining the differences. First I took a look at the AAA chart and compared it to the Alternative chart. They usually have several songs in common -- Right now it's Radioactive, Sick of You, The Cave, Dog Days Are Over to name a few. To those I add songs that are exclusively on the alternative chart. Then I compare it to the playlist of the AAA station, whether it's on their website, or in YES or TuneGenie. I count up the "alternative" current songs on the station's playlist. Ten and over will count an alternative leaning AAA. 5-9 will count as a neutral AAA Four and under will count as soft AAA.
So How did your station fare?
