RIP Martin Streek

Really sad news. Martin Streek long time personality for CFNY "The Edge" in Toronto was found dead in his apartment, apparently a suicide.

He was recently fired by Corus, the parent company for the Edge. Follow the above link and you'll find some great tributes in the comments section.

Some of the current Edge DJs had some nice tributes on their blogs on CFNY. He was one of the last links to the glory days of "The Spirit of Radio" when CFNY rivaled KROQ as the best radio station in North America.

For the last few years he was the host of the Thursday 30. Like most of the DJs from the old days he was unafraid to tell you he didn't care for a song, even if it was one the station was pushing hard. He was knowledgable and passionate, and apparently it was too much for the suits at Corus to handle. Too bad.

If I get to heaven, I know they'll have the most awesome "live to airs" up there.
