I promise to do an Essential 11 for September in a couple of days. August was a slow month for alt rock/adult alternative. Here's the proof...the songs on alternative and AAA radio that make me search for another station.
Pumped Up Kicks -- Foster the People. The alt rock single of the summer and boy was it catchy. But so is the flu.
Stay Young, Go Dancing -- Death Cab For Cutie If you're inviting someone to go dancing it helps if you come up with a good beat. A fox trot would be livilier.
Panic -- Sublime feat. Rome If I want white ska I'll go buy a Specials album.
Sail -- AWOL Nation It's songs like this that gave synth pop a bad name in the 80's.
I Feel You -- Sam Roberts Band Got a lot of airplay in Canada. Usually love this band, but this sort of bad blues rock would've got you booed off stage in the 70's.
Holding Onto Black Metal -- My Morning Jacket Proving that Evil Urges was a fluke, My Morning Jacket goes back to being the most overrated alt rock band.
Monster -- Paramore I really hate to say it (since they chose to be total douches when they left the band) but I miss the Farro brothers
Staind -- Not Again They wrote the review for me. How thoughtful.
Incubus -- Promises Promises Careful, guys. Releasing songs like this is what trapped the Goo Goo Dolls in adult contemporary hell.
The Sheepdogs -- I Don't Know Canadian radio pushed this song so the band would win a contest to get on the cover of Rolling Stone. They made it. So why are they still playing this listless repetitive crap?
The Kooks -- Junk of the Heart (Happy) Trying hard to remmeber why I used to like this band.
