XETRA "91x" Top 91 of 2009

2009 was a weird year for rock station year end countdowns. Several stations that have been doing them for years skipped this year -- and maybe are discontinuing forever -- KITS in San Francisco, KNDD in Seattle, KGSR in Austin all discontinued their longrunning countdowns. Even KROQ downsized its countdown to 20 (they did top 20s for each year of the last decade) KNDD also substituted a top 100 of the '00's for its yearly countdown, as did Canadian alt rocker CJZN.

XETRA out of Tijuana, Mexico (with studios in San Diego) is a station that has been doing countdowns for years and they didn't let us down this year.

If you live in Westchester County New York or on the North Shore of Long Island around the Nassau -- Suffolk County border (where I grew up) you're in AAA heaven. You can listen to non-commerical WFUV from Fordham University, which not only plays a varied and interesting mix of folk and lite indie, and has two great long running electic music programs on Saturday Night -- Idiot's Delight with Vin Scelsa and Pete Fornatale. There's also Alternative-AAA-Classic hybrid WRXP, which is getting better all the time. Then there's WRXP "The Peak", one of the more adventurous commercial AAA stations in hte country.

CJLX is the radio station of Loyalist College (you don't get college names more Canadian than that) in Belleville Ontario. It serves as the alternative station for that city, so they don't go for that high falutin Animal Collective and Flaming Lips stuff like other college stations.
